This wine is a blend of the various old vine Shiraz vineyards that we are fortunate enough to have access to. The distinctive characters of each vineyard work together in synergy, resulting in a wine of its own unique personality. Part of what makes all our single-vineyard wines such benchmarks for the region is the absolute 'no compromise' approach to selecting only the very best barrels. This leaves behind a number of ‘de-classified’ barrels which we also use towards creating this blend, meaning this wine delivers outstanding quality for the price.

  • In the Vineyard

Late 2022 in the Hunter Valley had regular spring rainfall, meaning downy mildew management was the name of the game at flowering. Summer arrived with full canopies and the occasional tropical storm. December and January were significantly drier and sunnier than earlier months. In mid to late February we hit our peak with some seriously exciting Shiraz fruit coming out of the 2023 harvest.

  • In the Winery

Part of what makes all our single-vineyard wines such benchmarks for the region is the absolute 'no compromise' approach to selecting only the very best barrels. This leaves behind a number of ‘de-classified’ barrels which we also use towards creating this blend. The 2023 vintage Synergy is a blend of Shiraz from the Fordwich Hill vineyard and also some of those ‘declassified’ barrels from the Cote D'or, Vanessa Vale and Black Cluster vineyards (in that order). Each parcel saw a cold soak for 24 to 48 hours, followed by stainless steel fermentation, and then racked into barrels for malolactic fermentation. Each parcel was raised in French oak 300L Hogshead barrels for 15 months before blending and bottling.

  • Appearance & Aroma

Vibrant purple colour with a ruby hue.

The nose is enticing with black pepper, delicate oak nuances and fresh ripe black and blue fruits.

  • Palate & Finish

The palate is medium-bodied and immediately satisfying with hints of black pepper, dark chocolate and violet around a core of ripe fresh mulberry, blackberry and dark cherry fruits. This wine has youthful vibrancy and appeal but also offers great medium-term cellaring potential.

The tannin and acid structure is nicely interwoven and offers a seductive supple texture and freshness. Order a pizza or spark up the BBQ and drink this to your hearts content. Seriously smashable!
