2011 Elenay Shiraz
The very first vintage of Elenay. A 'beautiful accident' blend of Sweetwater and Kiss Shiraz.
This label was first created from what we now describe as a "beautiful accident" in 2011, when a few barrels that were designated to be the famous Kiss Shiraz and Sweetwater vineyard Shiraz didn’t quite match their respective styles. With tongue in cheek, we affectionately referred to these ‘left-over’ barrels as the “Lips and Arseholes” and blended them together to create quite an exceptional Hunter Valley Shiraz. The wine was extremely well received, so we decided to continue the label in subsequent vintages by making an actual barrel selection for the blend. Stocks are limited.

Winemaking Overview

In the Vineyard
In 2011, the Hunter largely missed the unstable weather that hampered the rest of Australia. The growing season was challenging followed by a hot, dry lead up to harvest. As a result, we were able to produce beautifully structured Shiraz from that vintage.

In the Winery
This wine is comprised of a couple barrels that were designated to be the famous Kiss Shiraz but didn’t quite make the cut, and a couple barrels of Sweetwater vineyard Shiraz likewise just didn’t quite match Sweetwater's style. With tongue in cheek, we affectionately referred to these ‘left-over’ barrels as the “Lips and Arseholes” and blended them together to create quite an exceptional Hunter Valley Shiraz.

Appearance & Aroma
Satiny texture and ‘pretty’ fruited.

Palate & Finish
An underlying grunt of concentrated fruit and 'punchy' premium French oak.
WHEN TO DRINK
This wine is ready to drink now although could be cellared an additional 5 years if you prefer to wait a little longer.
